Calistoga School District Holds
Measure “A” Community Construction Tour
CALISTOGA, CA – On June 20, 2013, the Calistoga Unified School District (District) held a site tour to view construction progress made at the Calistoga Jr/Sr High School followed by a community mixer to view completed improvements at Calistoga Elementary School.
In November 2010, Calistoga voters approved Measure “A”, a $42 million General Obligation bond authorizing funding to improve and renovate Calistoga schools. Measure “A” will continue to fund capital improvements projects: school libraries, upgraded classrooms, technology improvements, new gym and multipurpose facilities, renewable energy (solar) systems, roofing upgrades, and upgrades to HVAC systems. The construction projects are scheduled to be completed in three phases as outlined in the District’s Facilities Master Plan. Phase I of the program is well underway and includes the following improvements:
· Calistoga Elementary Library Modernization - (completed)
· New Calistoga Jr/Sr High Gymnasium - (under construction)
· New Calistoga Jr/Sr High Multipurpose/Student Union - (under construction)
· Technology Improvements - (in progress)
· Renewable Energy (solar improvements) – (in progress)
All Phase I projects are anticipated to be completed by this winter. Construction team members were on hand to guide the tour of the construction progress made for the new gymnasium and multipurpose buildings. The exterior block walls are completed and wood framing is underway at the gymnasium. The foundation and underground utility work for the multipurpose building is complete and concrete slab is underway. Following the construction tour, a community mixer was held at Calistoga Elementary to view first the completed projects and celebrate progress made. Completed projects at Calistoga Elementary include the library, modernization of classrooms and restrooms, and renewable energy (solar). The school’s solar installation will reduce energy costs and is estimated to reduce the District’s carbon footprint by reducing greenhouse gasses equivalent to planting 13 acres of trees! The District has also completed technology improvements including stabilizing the District’s network and providing greater internet access for District programs at the schools. Ongoing technology improvements will provide all of the other District facilities with improved technology access.
Superintendent Esmeralda Mondragon noted: “These school improvements have been made possible by the community’s support. We are very excited to share our progress and look forward to opening the new gymnasium and multipurpose buildings in the winter!”
These efforts will mark a major milestone towards the completion of the District’s strategic plan to improve local schools. The District will continue to keep the community informed on progress.
The Calistoga Jt. Unified District currently operates three schools, Calistoga Elementary, Calistoga Junior / Senior High School, and Palisades Continuation High and educates approximately 809 students in grades K through 12.
